
To date there has been five public meetings
held at the Knights of Columbus Hall in North Sydney. At the
last public meeting, held March 06, 2002, the communtiy had
an unanimous vote to allow CBCEDA to put forth the funds needed
to hire a consultant to help the four discussion groups write
an action plan to apply for funding.
Landscape committee: meeting on a regular basis(once a month)
this group is in the process of getting prices on an architectural
drawing of the downtown,garbage cans, benches, planting flowers,
flower baskets, window boxes,developing green areas, and improving
our downtown Christmas lights.
Infrastructure committee: this groups discussion involves
mostly long term projects such as a facade program, signage,
unsightly premises, policing, underground wiring, inbound traffic
patterns, relocation of tourist bureau and improve communication
with Marine Atlantic. A short term project being worked on
now is address numbers for downtown businesses.
Image and Profile: this groups major concentration is on the
promotion of our downtown, as well as improving upon the community
communication. Right now they are in the process of doing the
community asset mapping.
Arts/Culture and Tourism: this group has been meeting regularly
to discuss ways to draw tourists as well as the community to
our downtown by showcasing our local talent.
